Garnet Exelby scored in OT to overtake the Islanders Monday night.
Joey Crabb had 2 goals, and Brett Sterling added another to help the thrashers get off to a 3-1 lead.
Matthew Spiller had 2 goals, and Freddy Meyer had the third, for the Isles.
Both teams played just one goalie, Johan Hedberg for the Thrashers making 29 saves, while Joey MacDonald made 27 saves for the Islanders.
