Manny Malhotra scored two goals in the third period to spoil Patrick Kane's preseason debut with a 4-3 Blue Jackets win. Robert Lang opened the scoring for the Blackhawks 4:47 into the game on a 2-man advantage. Yanic Perreault had the other two Blackhawk goals, scoring between the 2 and 3 minute marks of the second and third periods. Jason Chimera and Curtis Glencross had the other two Blue Jacket goals, scoring late in the first and second periods respectively.
Each team used one goalie for the duration of the game. Columbus played Pascal Leclaire, who stopped 25 of 28 shots. Chicago played Nikolai Khabibulin, who stopped 28 of 32 shots.
