Islanders snap winless preseason

After losing their first two preseason games, the New York Islanders finally won Wednesday night over the Montreal Canadiens, with a 3-1 score. Jon Sim scored two goals and Bill Guerin added a third, all in the first period for the Islanders. The Canadiens didn't get their only tally until 4:43 of the third period on a goal by Andrei Kostitsyn.

Cristobal Huet played the first two periods, giving up all 3 Islander goals on 26 shots. Yann Danis played the third period and stopped all 6 shots he faced. Rick DiPietro stopped all 19 shots he faced through two periods for the win, while Wade Dubielewicz played the third period, stopping 10 of 11 shots.
