Some are saying the reason Mats re-signed just one year, was because in case things failed to improve this year, he would be able to escape to another team. But that isn't the case. Mats Sundin stated that he wants to stay with the Leafs, and in fact retire a Leaf.
"My only desire is to be part of a championship team here. I want to end my career in Toronto," said Leaf captain Mats Sundin after being questioned about his contract.
