
The Bruins won a tension-filled matchup over the Islanders in St. John's, Newfoundland. Jeff Hoggan had two goals, and Chuck Kobasew scored what turned out to be the game-winner with 1:03 left in the first period. Hoggan scored his second goal 2:16 into the middle frame before Chris Campoli scored the only goal for the Islanders 59 seconds later on the power play. At one point, the Islanders' Kip Brennan took down Zdeno Chara in a fight.
Each team used one goalie through the whole game. Tim Thomas minded the net for Boston while Mike Morrison played in goal for New York.
